Council invests £21.2 million to support vulnerable Nottingham residents and help prevent homelessness

Nottingham City Council has approved a £21.219 million investment in continuing to  deliver vital homelessness prevention and rough sleeping services. The investment will  help to protect vulnerable residents and will build on significant progress made over the past two years.

The funding, which will support services through to 2029, will enable the Council to maintain essential homelessness and rough sleeping provision, sustain improvements already achieved, and continue developing its homelessness service.

In the face of increasing demand, the Council has made significant progress in improving outcomes for residents facing homelessness. In 2025/26, homelessness assessments increased by 14% and levels of rough sleeping in Nottingham remained above the national average. However, targeted investment and service improvements have led to stronger outcomes for homeless households - no families have been in hotel accommodation for longer than six weeks since December 2025 - and the number of people found sleeping rough in the city is falling.

The investment will ensure the Council can continue to provide temporary accommodation and homelessness prevention services, protect its statutory duties, and support some of the city’s most vulnerable residents to rebuild their lives.

Cllr Jay Hayes, Executive Member for Housing and Planning at Nottingham City Council, said: "Homelessness is one of the biggest challenges facing councils across the country, but we're committed to doing everything we can to prevent people from reaching crisis point in the first place.

"This investment means we can continue to provide the support people need to stay in their homes wherever possible, offer safe temporary accommodation when it’s needed, and help families move on to settled housing.

“Our approach is working. We will continue to deliver on our commitment to creating safer, healthier communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive."

The investment supports the Council's wider priorities to improve housing outcomes, reduce inequality, promote wellbeing and strengthen community safety.
